TROFEO ABARTH 500 GB OFFICIAL LAUNCH REPORT

prelaunch10Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who attended! From the feedback we have had the TROFEO ABARTH 500 GB Official Launch was one of the most successful debuts in motorsport. A fantastic turn out with relatively good weather ensured the success of what seems to be the big news item for next year. A wide variety of drivers, suppliers, teams, and sponsors attended the day in order to check the first 6 cars delivered to UK.

This was an exciting start to the TROFEO GB and the general feeling in the paddock was certainly positive. The drivers testing the cars have all expressed a good feedback and found the cars were real ‘driver’s cars’. For those that did not get enough time on the wheel and for the ones that unfortunately did not manage to get a testing slot, another test will be organised very soon.

The day was opened by Ivan Gibson, Abarth UK brand responsible, and Adam Jones, who won in the car at the UK round of the European Trofeo at Brands Hatch back in July. Ivan highlighted the importance of the TROFEO GB for the brand and the very positive reaction from the dealers’ network.

During the day, about 30 racing drivers tested the cars, 6 cars proved their reliability with only an engine failure due to ‘red mist’, 5 racing teams managed the 500 AC, which proved to be reliable and enjoyable.

The day was also celebrated by some very lucky Abarth road car owners that got out onto the racetrack – many realising their ambitions.

Championship manager, Paolo Callea, announced the Trofeo Platform to a captive audience. The official talk included several points about the championship including strict scrutineering and policing of driving standard but he also emphasised the importance of delivering value for all the championship stakeholders. The TROFEO GB is a platform with a fresh approach to motorsport- while capturing the essence of the Abarth brand the Trofeo GB must be enjoyable and competitive with an event format and prize structure that brings value and entertainment for all involved. The race calendar will be released as soon as possible.
