Race 1 – Oulton Park – Easter Weekend.
The first ever Trofeo Abarth 500 GB Races will be held at Oulton Park from 3rd-5th of April. It is set to be a bumper weekend of racing this Bank Holiday weekend! The Abarth 500 Assetto Corse will provide entertainment to crowds who will also get to watch exotic supercars and future Formula One stars, lining up for the first round of the 2010 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 series.
We’ll be providing more information about the schedule as we get closer to the event, but it promises to be a weekend to remember. Previous seasons of the Trofeo Abarth 500 in Europe have provided close, spectacular action and the GB season will be no different.
The Trofeo Abarth 500 GB will race alongside British F3 and the Avon Tyres British GT championship.
British F3 has proven to be one of the most successful stepping stones for young drivers on their way to Formula One as graduates from the series include Ayrton Senna and 2009 Formula One champion Jenson Button. The Cheshire circuit saw Australian Daniel Ricciardo score his first two wins in the series on his way to the 2009 title. A number of young drivers will be eager to follow in the young Australians footsteps.
The Avon Tyres British GT championship will again be joining F3 at Oulton Park. Some of the most evocative marques in motorsport will be competing over the weekend. Expect to see Ferraris, Porsches, Dodge Vipers plus the new for 2010 Audi R8!

A New British Leisure Option.
London. (14th Mar, 2010). This year, the UK public will be able to enjoy a new sporting entertainment experience. The Zing Trofeo Abarth 500 GB will start the 2010 season at Oulton Park in less than a month’s time, but before the engines start, the series will be on display at the British Leisure Show in Windsor this weekend from the 19th to the 21st of March.
Organisers of the new championship are keen to bring motosport to a wider audience and make the series more accessible as part of people’s leisure choices.
Denis Baddeley, Head of Marketing for the Zing Trofeo Abarth 500 said:
”On any given Sunday, people have a wide choice of things to do. It doesn’t matter whether you are a participant or a spectator; there are hundreds of ways that you can spend your leisure time. The Trofeo offers yet another alternative to those with precious leisure time so we have to always have in the back of our minds that people could be doing something else. Therefore those who drive with us and those that come to watch us are very important.”
The combination of sport and entertainment, mixed with the heritage and lifestyle positioning of Abarth, has generated great interest amongst teams and drivers and also captured the imagination of a growing numbers of fans who are interacting with the new championship through social media sites like Facebook as well as the offical Trofeo Abarth 500 GB website.
Sponsors too have been drawn to the new series. As well as title sponsor Zing Digital Media, the organisers are proud to announce that Iveco will support the championship in 2010.
“We are very proud to be supporting the Trofeo Abarth 500 GB series,” said Nigel Emms, Director Brand & Communication at Iveco. “Similar examples from our Stralis Active Space range of heavy trucks already help to keep the Scuderia Ferrari F1 and Fiat Yamaha MotoGP teams on the move, so it’s the perfect vehicle to support this exciting new racing series. It’s also a fitting role for our flagship vehicle, which will travel around the UK and onto the continent for every race on the 2010 calendar.”
The Stralis will be used for transporting cars and spare parts to each race event, with its high specification guaranteeing a spacious and comfortable working environment for the driver, with plenty of space to relax when staying overnight in the twin-bunk cab.
The Zing Trofeo Abarth 500 GB will provide media a chance to learn more at Cadwell Park on the 24th of March and will then begin the 2010 season at Oulten Park from the 3rd – 5th of April.
